Are Jellies allowed to write code/programming stuff for Fluther? [Details inside].

Sometimes, when there are questions for new desired items on/in Fluther, suggestions for implementations are being made by some members.
The answer the last year is that there is no activity in programming , by the founders anymore.
I have the idea that in the pool of Fluther members there are some programmers.
Suppose (one of) those Jellies offers his/her services, would Fluther be okay after deliberation and testing with them implementing their work into the site?

Only if they make the resulting code open source, otherwise it lends itself to abuse by unscrupulous peeps who might embed malicious code (or at least annoying adware) into Fluther, itself.
I had the impression that johnpowell did some programming for us while he was with us.
What’s the back end language and database?
@ETpro – It’s Django (Python) and I’m not sure on the database but I would guess MySQL
@funkdaddy Thanks. MySQL I do speak. Python I have had no call to learn. Seems like all too often, calls to the database are awfully slow to respond. Not sure what the bottleneck is, but it is clear there is one.
It’s an interesting idea. I’m not sure how well it would work in practice, but I’m open to discussing it with the guys.
@ETpro It’s been terrible all night! Something with our host, I think. :/
Yes- Neptune was eating it all at one point last night. Very frustrating.
I gave up last night. I figured that the Kracken had invaded the tide-pool.
I think this would be a great idea. There are some skilled people here who could do it.
I’d be useless doing any programming, but I would happily sit in the background and provide soothing harp music while someone more technically savvy did so…
Seems like the Kraken is still hanging around this morning.
Anyone else having trouble connecting and loading pages?
Maybe it’s the solar storm and not the Kraken.
I think I fixed it. One of the web servers had gotten hung up and wasn’t responding—so if you randomly hit that one it’d be slow.
Ah you could be right @ETpro .
Maybe the coronal mass ejection has caused a maelstrom.
edit: Oops, maybe not.
@rebbel It’s a great thought—unfortunately all the time we can devote to the site is spent maintaining, bookkeeping, doing taxes, etc that we don’t really have time to shepherd patches and oversee bug fixes right now.
That said, we’re actively working on getting a better, sustainable solution to continue work on the site, one which we hope to have in place in a few months.
We love you Andrew – our buddy!
Ah, I was just writing an address to you, but I see you answered the question already.
Thanks for that, @andrew!
For me, the site already is good, so no worries about that from me, but it is nice that you consider(ed) the initial thought.
@rebbel Oh, many, many times when we get texts in the middle of the night do I think about bringing in a few members. :)
@andrew : Milo here; for a large enough cash bonus, I’ll volunteer.
