I see zero point in being concerned. It will either destroy us or not, and there little to nothing we can do about it.

How would one prepare? You would not know until it was going to happen where it was going to hit exactly.

The consequences could be global. It could affect weather patterns.

You can’t and wouldn’t be able to do anything. Just take your death like a man, :P

Prepare invitations to your end of the world party

Didn’t this question pop up a while back? Because I remember us talking about asteroids and technology that is readily available to deal with that threat.

tom_g's avatar

I’d rather it not happen on a weekend.

rebbel's avatar

I think you just prepared us.

@rebbel
I usually ignore this stuff. The blog made it seem credible.
We could develop a plan.

Blackberry's avatar

@philosopher Nope, we can’t. Lol.

ragingloli's avatar

@Blackberry
Sure we can. We could blow it to bits that are small enough to vaporise during atmospheric entry. Or we could put sails or rocket thrusters on it to alter its course. Or fire nukes at it to slightly nudge it off course. All things that can be done, even with contemporary technology.
But if you want to crawl into your cave and await your doom, do so, but do not stand in the way of those who look for solutions.

@ragingloli I remember watching an expert talking about strategies for dealing with a killer asteroid. He thought painting it green was a good idea.
The idea was that, once painted, the asteroid would heat up, and break apart.
I thought it was a novel idea.

I feel confident that the U. S. Military is on top of this.

Given that we are working so hard at making Earth uninhabitable, an attempt to prevent other agents from doing so seems inconsistent.

Gather a large quantity of morbidly obese people at the summit of Mt. Everest & have them fart simult….....simulta…...at the same time. Should deal with the threat quite effectively.

ragingloli's avatar

simultaneously

ucme's avatar

Oh I know how to spell it, just being a touch sarcastic, achtung…...baby.

ragingloli's avatar

That is what they all say. And then they get pregnant.

Blackberry's avatar

@ragingloli Yeah, I guess the size matters a lot, because we could also blow it to bits that would just act more as a carpet bomb instead of an atom bomb.

stardust's avatar

Can’t it come sooner? I’ve an assignment due soon :/

mattbrowne's avatar

I’d say it’s number 25 on a list of 30 worries humanity should have.

philosopher's avatar

@ragingloli
Foresight is lacking among many here. The ability to plan and stop things from happening is why humanity has prevailed.
You make a good point.
