I'm looking for a good reference in how to repaint an electric guitar to a solid color, got any?

Sorry, I don’t have any links BUT what I’d do would be to un-string it, tape off all the parts you don’t want paint on and then paint it myself. I’d end with a good coat of varnish. You could be as creative as you want.

Wood electric guitar. dis-assemble the electronics after removal of strings. Mask off fretboard. Rough up all surfaces to be painted. Paint with spray gun this coats and coats of thin varnish.

I don’t know about stripping the existing finish on the wood. I’ve used a combination of hot water, Easy Off oven cleaner, and brillo pads to strip the finish off firearms before, so I imagine the process would be similar, though. I do know that auto body paint is a very good paint for refinishing/coloring the body of electric guitars once you seal it, and it is available in a wide selection at Pep Boys and places like that.

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard Would the car paint essentially be the final coat?

@whitecarnations, it could be, but I’d personally seal it with a high gloss clear coat.
