Why are American guitars typically more valuable than guitars made from different nations?

How would you rate the order of prestige?

Example:

1. American made
2. Japanese made etc

And why is this? Is this because of the wood difference? Or is this because of the pay rate to its citizens by these nations? In a guitar plant in Mexico are the regulations less strict than an American Fender plant?
