He died of pneumonia as far as I remember. He didn’t get treatment for it so I assume it went into his lungs.

Strep infection caused organ failure, healthy one day dead the next.
The way the question is written implies that @whitecarnations already knows that Henson died of organ failure caused by streptococcus-induced pneumonia. That’s all available on Wikipedia, which I assume he checked before asking this. The question is about which particular organ failed. @chyna is right about that one: it was his lungs. I could find two news articles confirming it (link one, link two).
Yikes!
Since he died from type A strep pneumonia, I guess the bacteria literally ate his lungs.

He died as indicated above. The tragic/unusual circumstances is that he could have easily been saved. Unfortunately he was a Christian Scientist and would not allow them to treat the infection. He was diagnosed in way way plenty of time to prevent his death.
Huuuuuuuuh!
Is there a suggestion that Jim died because of causes other than those officially asserted?
I am shocked if this is so.
He died from not getting proper medical treatment for a treatable illness.
Interesting. So this was a rapid form of Streptococcus? How common or uncommon is this disease? Let’s say in the U.S.A.
I had an uncle die from strep infection after a brief bout of the flu. He was in his 80’s, but yes, fine one day, feeling better and then dead in 24 hours of organ failure. o-o
I’m in the USA California and this was in 2004
