What is the most unenforced traffic law by the police?
I am sure you have plenty of ideas, from your daily driving observations of traffic law violations.
But, there is only one violation that the police just “look away” and rarely enforce.
Question: what is it?

Cyclists running red lights. Or so it seems in London.
I should add that this is a moving violation, not a parking violation.
I would say talking on a cell phone. It’s done all the time, I see it all the time, but unless a cop actually is up close to someone, it’s hard to see.
Here is a clue…..it’s NOT the HOV lanes.
Running a yellow light? Although I got a ticket for running one.
Illegal honking at hot women.
Driving in the left lane of a four lane road with no traffic in the right hand lane?
@Adirondackwannabe: That’s not a crime around here. Not sure if it is or isn’t where you live.
Not having the daylight running lights on.
Failing to indicate turning.
Women in the driver’s seat.
It’s got to be speeding. Technically, if you’re 1 MPH over the limit, that’s a violation. But everybody routinely goes beyond that, and cops won’t do anything until you’ve exceeded it by some mysterious margin.
Its really very simple and something we all do everyday.
Those parents who place a ”Baby on board” sticker in the window should be given an on the spot fine for general principle.
Whenever I see one I think….“Oh look out, they have a baby in the car, I must drive more carefully now!?!”
Driving while distracted – - -
Eating
Cell Phone use
Fiddling with car radio
Seat belts.
In my county, it’s a secondary offense – you can’t be pulled over for it, but you can get a ticket if it is observed.
The “California” stop. Where you almost stop at a stop sign, but, really, you just apply your brakes enough to mimic a full stop without actually fully stopping. lol
@Coloma: Where I live, they’ll get you on that one.
Not using your directional?
@Coloma- Living in NorCal you should know this. CA drivers refer to that as a Hollywood stop.
Haha… @AstroChuck…that too.
@jca Well, I live in a rural area with only about 5 CHPs to cover a 200 mile radius, you can go months and never see a cop up here. There is only one stop sign I do the Hollywood roll at, and it is at a remote intersection that rarely has anyone there.
If you’re looking for a specific answer, I would have to guess traveling in the passing lane.
TaaaaaaDaaaaahhhhhhh…........here is the answer.
Passing or coming around a stopped U.S. Postal mail truck.
We pass on a double yellow line, we pass on a hill, we pass when it is safe.
This is a lane restrition violation and we rarely enforce it.
Without passing a stopped mail truck, traffic would come to a standstill.
Sometimes, the laws are bendable and you have to use your common sense.

Wow! I never knew that!
I live in a rural mail zone so am always running into mail trucks.
Oh my, well, everybody on my road goes around the mail delivery person. We flag them down to take our late outgoing mail too, sooo, we actually pull them over. We force them off the road. lol
So far, so good. haha
Rolling stop. I never see anyone come to a complete stop at stop signs. Never. Not even police. Second most common is stopping past the white stop line at intersections. My driver friends tell me it’s impossible to see around corners from where the white lines are painted, which is why drivers completely ignore them and often stop in the middle of pedestrian crossings. As a lifelong pedestrian who is mortally weary of having to walk into the middle of traffic because drivers think driving laws are just polite suggestions, I tell my driver friends to go fuck themselves.
….We can’t pass a postal truck??? Oh no. I’ll never get ANYWHERE now!
I’ve been carrying mail for 27 years and I’ve never heard that before. What state is that?
Changing lanes without signaling.
