What causes body odor?

Asked by Awww (113points) May 25th, 2008 from iPhone

I have never in my life had body odor, but over the past 3 weeks I’ve noticed that I’m starting to get body odor. The only change is that I’ve been eating a little more than usual (my moms been over) I still exercise and wear deodorant and all that good stuff but the odor still gets by.

Bacteria having a happy happy time in your sweat.

Delirium beat me to the cause. It might be that your body is changing as you age. It does that. Perhaps you should switch to an anti-antiperspirant rather than using a deodorant. A natural type that contains minerals (looks like a big stick of crystal), but no aluminum chlorhydrate can be purchased at Whole Foods or health food stores.

I honestly never smelled until I tried the cyrstal stick stuff. It for some reason never worked for me which is to bad because I am not so keen on putting chemicals on my body.

Delirium, is there anything I can do to get rid of the bacteria or does the perspirant deodorant take care of that?

The antiperspirant (applied after you shower) will keep the bacteria from returning for a day or so. Then you have to shower again.

You mentioned that you’ve been eating more, which may be a clue. Your system may be backed up. I’ve known that to cause body odor before. You might want to do some kind of internal cleansing.

Or what about the emergence of some kind of food intolerance? Apparently it can cause body odor, owing to the fermentation of the food that doesn’t get digested.
