What can a musician/celebrity do to make her more popular?

Asked by Mandeblind (425points) March 30th, 2012 from iPhone

Popular in a way that she is talked about everywhere, and in all magazines. Therefore her music is becoming even more popular.

‘Leak’ a home made sex tape. Whole careers have been built on them for people that don’t have any talent. I can only imagine what it will do for someone that has talent.

Have some talent.

Talent enough is enough! But today, to be on top depends on other things as well. (Or lets say it CAN depend) For example getting yourself on the news for making out with the interviewer….

There is a distinct difference between popular and scandalous.

I dont think so, trillion. Not that much.

Oh, well if you wanted people to just parrot whatever your opinion is, you should have just said that. I was under the mistaken impression that you wanted opinions. State your opinion so that those who concur can post. And if you want to disagree with Merriam – Webster, that’s entirely up to you.

First and foremost the musician has to have talent. Someone that has no talent can be crazy as a loon, and no one will notice. But I would rather my talent speak for me rather than crazy actions or crazy clothes.

Good connections to influential media people.

Sorry I made you feel that way Trillian. After all, I was telling MY opinion, I guess I should have kept it to myself…

Spend more time writing really great music, listening to and exposing herself to a wide variety of potential sources of inspiration. Travel and meet people from a vast array of cultural backgrounds—draw from those experiences and use them to make better music. Doing charity work is also helpful, will build character, and get media publicity (the right kind).

Also it depends on what you want out of your career. Would you want to be just a flash in the pan, a known performer for just a couple of years, known only for her crazy antics and bad behavior? Or would you want to be a life long performer known for her great music through the ages?

Be original—go where no performer has gone before. Reach for the stars. Make lots of connections in related industries. Talk to music trade publications. Be seen.

Have quality, be sincere, have an opinion, and most important; don’t give a shit about popularity (contests).
