Ladies: what is the longest you have gone without shaving your armpits and legs and why?

Asked by JLeslie (65719points) April 3rd, 2012

I haven’t shaved in over a week. I want to shave so badly. Usually I am thrilled to be able to skip a day or two, but now being at the 10 day mark, I am at the opposite end. I haven’t shaven because of the accident I was in. I have not even taken a shower alone yet, my husband has always been with me to help me. I think maybe I can manage to shave today. I hope so.

Years. So many years I can’t remember. I am not hairy at all.

Months, usually during Winter.

Armpits, regularity (2–3 times/week). Legs, weeks (winter).

Maybe a week and a half or so. Usually when I run out of razors or shaving cream and am also extremely busy and don’t really have time to go out to the store.

I hate being hairy. When I first heard that a lot of women don’t shave at all in the winter I thought it was so weird.

Last spring for legs. I am seeing the dermatologist in two weeks and will try to locate the razor.

A long time for armpits; between chemo and aging, the hair has vanished.

One of the advantages of aging, besides not having to worry about getting pregnant, is no longer needing to shave. Hair loss on the head is somewhat distressing; other places, not at all.

I have always shaved my armpits but did go completely natural on my legs for years in the 70’s and 80’s. I am a light natural blonde, have little body hair, and, quite frankly I liked the way my golden leg hair would shimmer in the sun on my tan legs. lol I never had any man complain but I did return to shaving my legs later and now, always shave my underarms, several times a week, but let the legs go for weeks sometimes, in winter.
I have also never plucked my eyebrows or shaded them.

They are so light that they blend with my bangs and the way they reflect as transparent makes plucking really hard. They are also very fine and not bushy and maintain a natural shape all on their own.
Once I had them darkend for some professional photos and I felt like I looked like a hooker, haha it was so weird to have brown eyebrows that were visible. I didn’t like the effect at all.
I look best in minimal makeup and think mother nature did a good job on me and it’s best to not tamper with mother nature. lol

I met a woman in Portland, OR that didn’t shave at all. Her legs and armpits were very hairy. I didn’t bother to ask why because that would give her the impression that I cared, lol.

Months and months. I don’t care and my wife doesn’t care. Simple, really.

I find a bit of hair under a woman’s armpit kinda sexy.

Months ..I don’t usually shave all winter. My lady doesn’t care and vice versa. I’m pretty hairy at the moment. I do shave my legs in the summer (society demands it of me).

Keep_on_running's avatar

@Plucky Why does society always choose the most time-consuming demands for us women?

Plucky's avatar

@Keep_on_running It’s all a conspiracy to keep us presentable. Because, well, an unpresentable woman isn’t a woman at all! :P

Keep_on_running's avatar

Oh yeah, forgot about all that…

I would never drag a sharp piece of steel across my soft, furry skin.

Months. I was in hospital for a few months and didn’t shave my legs.

I’ve gone months – from late fall to early spring without shaving my legs. The longest I’ve ever gone without shaving under my arms is a week. I get itchy if I go longer than that.

Through the winter I don’t shave either. I’m not very hairy so it doesn’t matter to me nor my husband. As soon as skirt/short weather shows up (like today) I make sure I shave both.

I’m not very hairy so in winter I quite happily don’t shave my legs for months. I shave a couple of times a week in summer though. I barely have any hair under my arms so do them when I need to. My husband really doesn’t care either way.

Longest time is usually the length of my cycle. I get dry legs in the winter so I shave them anyway so that I can put lotion on. I’m not very hairy so it only takes me about 2 minutes to shave my legs and arm pits. Usually shave about every 3 to 4 day. They don’t come in very fast either. Wish I could say the same about my eyebrows. I have to tweeze them, every other day. If I don’t then, I feel unkept.

Somewhere around 11 years.
I should probably mention they were the first 11 years of my life…

Months. It’s takes too much time and energy and money.

I don’t think I have gone any longer than a week since I started shaving. I hate feeling stubbly and I think I would feel exactly the same as you do if I had to go without shaving. Could you ask your husband to do it for you?

JLeslie's avatar

@Leanne1986 I shaved yesterday. I was feeling a little more able to move, and went ahead and took a bath and shaved. Getting out of the bath scared the crap out of me! I won’t be doing that again for a while. So many people kept telling me to take a bath for my muscles, and I had not even entertained the idea, could not imagine getting in or out. I had not even taken a shower alone, the first few days we brought in a plastic chair so I didn’t stand. Now I cam showee, I’ll shave in the shower.

OpryLeigh's avatar

@JLeslie Good for you, hopefully as you get stronger each day it will become less scary getting in and out of the bath. I hope the pain is starting to ease for you.

JLeslie's avatar

I called a girlfriend to pick me up tomorrow to go to lunch and walk a little hopefully. Trying my best not to only be at home looking like an unkept depressed person. I’m going to paint my nails today. My husband cut my hair an inch and a half so it is easier for him to manage, and me for that matter.

OpryLeigh's avatar

Your husband sounds like a very sweet man! If I asked my boyfriend to trim my hair I think he’d crap himself!!!

JLeslie's avatar

@Leanne1986 He is sweet. He said he will never complain about the conditioner I buy or how much I use now that he had to comb through my hair in the hospital. He comes from a long line of beautiful full hair headed people. Mine is thin and easily tangled. One upside to the situation. But, he is getting a impatient, it’s what happens when you have to wait on someine hand and foot. He has to help me in the middle of the night when I wake, and he is not good about having his sleep disturbed. Plus, he is working half days at work half from home still to help me, plus all the chores. It’s a lot. He’s been great overall. We might fly his mom in, can’t remember if I mentioned that above.
