What are the branches of the trigeminal nerve (CNV)?

Asked by julia999 (343points) April 3rd, 2012

Hi I’m preparing for a question that asks “What is the sensory innervation of the face?”.

I’ve listed GA (Greater Auricular), V1, V2 and V3.
I’d like to list some of the main branches of V1, V2 and V3, but don’t want to go into too much detail.

For V1 I’ve got:
lacrimal, nasocillary, frontal (supraorbital and supratrochlear terminal branches)

But I’m struggling with V2 and V3. I don’t want to list all the branches as there are so many, but just the first few.

Our lecturer said:
for V2: infraorbital, zygomaticofacial, zygomaticotemporal
for V3: mental, longbuccal, auriculotemporal
But I’m not sure how correct that is, for example mental is a very small branch that comes off a bigger one. I think he was just saying some random ones.

Could someone please help me work out what branches to memorise for V2 and V3?
