How to stay awake?

Asked by nikipedia (28095points) May 26th, 2008

Other side of the falling asleep question. Caffeinate, stretch, screw it and go home because it’s a holiday anyway?

Heh, I wish I knew why I’m able to stay away so well.
I usually get a second wind around 11:30 every evening and I’m up till 1:30 ish.

I drink a toooon of soda during the week – doesn’t make me hyper or overactive, just might be to blame for my odd sleep patterns (or maybe I’m just a normal high school kid)

Fluther and coffee! If you are able to GO HOME and relax. I am sure you work hard enough to deserve an extra day off!

Sunlight and fresh air help me the most when I’ve been stuck inside at work all day. I find caffeine just makes me even more tired after it wears off. Try going for a short walk.

Loud music. Sing along.

Keep the house cold, avoid bed, hot showers, “easy listening” music, drink LOTS of coffee, it’s your best bet on staying awake for long periods of time. Avoid caffeine, it will only make you crash later, if you want, you can count how many items are in your house that start with the latter A, then B etc…. Stay on Fluther, or anything that you are addicted to, or helps you concentrate and get your mind straight. Its a good time to plan out some spots in the day to focus on something you’ve wanted to do in a while, but never got around to it. Good luck.

@Del* – I was about to reply “That actually keeps me awake.” – and then I realized I wasn’t in the “How to fall asleep?” question.

@bree: Well… it could fit both… depending….

For how long do you have to stay awake?

nikipedia's avatar

I have stuff scheduled for about 3 1/2 hours more, plus 45 minute drive home.

Sometimes when I am beyond coffee, cold water will refresh me.

All right. I would keep busy on Fluther, get up and move around at times, including some short bursts of calisthenics. I wish you a lot of luck. Trying to stay awake when your candle is already burned down to the bottom of the wick can be a challenge.
