Who has seen a Love Lock?

Asked by Pied_Pfeffer (28144points) April 10th, 2012

The SO and I were recently in Munich, and we noticed padlocks secured to a metal bridge in a public park. On the locks were initials, either carved or written in permanent marker. We then started to notice locks in other locations.

It turns out that they are Love Locks. Apparently, it’s a fad in several European countries. I’m curious if this has made it to your area. The article mentions that it’s happening in Toronto, Canada, so it’s made it across the Atlantic pond, but I haven’t noticed any here in the US.

@GladysMensch Ha! I don’t work for them, but the thought crossed my mind that I should consider investing in their stock.

I don’t think I have ever seen one. If I did, I didn’t recognize it as a “Love Lock”.

That’s cool! I’ve never heard of it but I think it’s a neat idea.

I saw a fence with them on the Via dell’Amore between RioMaggiore and Manarola in Cinque Terre, Italy. But I have never seen them in the US.

It would take a special place, like on the Brooklyn Bridge. Anyone in New York want to start it?

I was just about to dat that’s where we saw them last summer. Beautiful place. I hope you enjoyed it as much as my wife, kids and I did.

My niece just put on on the bench by the beach in San Diego where she got engaged, then married. They threw away the key. :-)

I’d never heard of this, but it seems very sweet. I feel a sudden urge to put one somewhere. Maybe just on my cellar door?

There’s a city in Nevada called (what else?) Lovelock that has one. I’ve never actually been there, but would like to go one day.
