How to style sideswept bangs?
Just over a week ago, I had my straight across bangs cut into sideswept bangs. I try to style them like most people do, but can’t get them to look right. If I use a thermal hairbrush to turn the hair under while blow-drying, they just end up falling straight into my eyes or they end up being too poofy. If I pin them back with a bobby pin while wet and let them dry that way, they will go to the side, but then they fall flat against my forehead. I want them to have just a little bit of volume. After spending hours trying to fix them each day, I’m almost ready to give up and go back to straight across bangs again. Can someone talk me down? What am I not doing that I should be?

How long are they cut (in proportion to your face)? At what angle do they sweep down? My experience with side-swept bangs, as someone whose hair won’t even hold teasing and copious hairspray (made being Bellatrix for Halloween difficult) much less a curl, is that it’s more of an issue of them being cut too long and the angle that they’re cut rather than the styling.
If they are cut too long I’ll just get one or two pieces that hang down in front of my face, but if they’re short enough they can lay flat and naturally sweep to the side. I don’t even comb my hair every day much less blowdry it or use products.
Have you tried hair hair gel. There are a lot that will keep anything from moving. As mention above, hairspray will do the same.
@coelacanth When they’re straight, they fall right below my eye. I don’t think the stylist really angled them, she just used texturing scissors to thin the hair so it would be easier to push to the side. The bangs are parted so that they sweep down the left side of my face. The weird thing is that when she styled them, they looked great (i.e. pulled over to the side with just a little bit of lift at the root), so I think maybe it is something I’m not doing right.
Hope this makes sense. I’m not well-versed in hair terminology or styling techniques (hence this question).
@Pandora I just tried hairspray and it does help keep the hair in place. Not sure what to do about the lack of volume, though. :(
Thanks to both of you for your answers.
