How does the number of GAs an answer has already gotten affect the likelihood that you'll give it a GA?
I’m just exploring the psychology of lurve here, nothing more.
Do you have an idea of what a “1 GA” answer is like vs. a “3 GA” answer, or a “10 GA” answer? Do you look at the number of GAs an answer has already garnered and think, “Oh, that’s worth more recognition than that”, or “8 GAs? Really?”, or “That’s already gotten about what it deserves”?
Will this kind of judgment affect how likely you are to award a GA?

Never. I rely on my own reactions.
(In a few cases, I might give a GA before the respondent actually types his or her answer, due to their history.)

I do that too, sometimes.
GA, @janbb!
I don’t pay any attention to what kind of lurve score an answer already has. I GA it if I think it was a good answer and if not, then I don’t.
Yep, numbers don’t influence me at all, if I like the answer I’ll GA it.
Recently I had someone say they felt that those of us with high lurve scores were biased because of our “rank” and the higher “ranking” members were quick to jump on lower ranking members. Oh brother…this NEVER even crosses my mind. My lurve is up there because I participate a lot and I feel zero attachment to some sort of fluther “status.”
Hmm, I sometimes go back and re-read an answer when someone posts a specific response to it. In a few cases, it results in a tic mark to the referenced responder’s post, if the later post adds clarity to the original sentiment. As for the number of GA tic marks a person already has, it makes no difference. If what is stated makes sense to me, then it is given a GA.
I give a Good Answer when I see a good answer no matter how many GAs the answer has already received.
I haven’t quite figured out how these work. Many times I’ll come across an answer with 10 GA’s and think to myself “That got 10 GA’s? He was clearly just being a smartass and his answer isn’t helpful in the least”.
I’ve also seen very thoughtful, in depth posts receive none.
The best plan for me is to ignore whatever numbers the answer already has and GA it if I think it is a GA regardless of who agrees.
I DO enjoy witty, playful personalities and a great sense of humor so I do give GA’s for those that show these qualities.
Even in the General section, while I respect the guidelines I still think there should be room for a little play as long as it doesn’t completely hijack the original Q. I’ve learned to modify my spontaneous responses, for the most part, but I have a hard time resisting a little levity at times. Of course this is reflective of my overall not taking anything too seriously personality.
Of course I’ve had that thought: “8 GAs? What are those people thinking?” But I can’t take away the GA I didn’t give, so it has no affect on me.
I will notice if an answer got a lot of lurve and usually make sure to read it in order to find out what other people liked. If I like the answer, I’ll lurve it, too. But I’ll never throw on lurve just because a bunch of other people did, too.
It doesn’t, if it’s good enough then it’s in, so to speak.
It doesn’t affect whether I will give it a GA or not. If I think it deserves a GA, I’ll give it one, regardless of whether other people have the same thoughts.
No. I judge responses based on my own criteria. Did it answer the question? Was it useful? Did it present a different perspective? Was it well argued? Did the poster provide interesting evidence? Was it funny? I am not influenced by the ‘group’ voice in terms of giving GAs.
This question hasn’t received any GQ’s yet, so I don’t feel like I need to give a serious answer. ~
There’s one set of circumstances in which the number already given affects what I do. That’s the case where the post has fewer than 5 GA’s and I know I’m maxed out on the person. In that case I will often hold off because I know my GA won’t give that person points, and maybe someone else’s will. I’ll wait until it already has 5, after which additional clicks don’t count for points anyway.
But I never concern myself with how many I think a post “ought” to receive, only with what I think of it.
I love you @rebbel! Can’t wait to be your baby’s Bubby! Just sayin’
@janbb wow, at quick scan I thought you said “Can’t wait to have your baby”
@blueiiznh Now that would be a miraculous but probably very fun conception!
