I gotta go to a college interview sometime later next month, and I’ve never been to one before…
It said on the letter that it would be informal, but I still want to impress them. Apart from using good english, what else should I keep in mind?
Btw, college over here is straight after secondary school, and you leave when you’re either 18 or 19. Not the same in the States.

Get a hold of some realistic questions you might be asked – ideally, dozens of them. Write each question on strips of paper and put them in a box. Randomly pull one of a time out of the box and answer the question.
Dress professionally.
Look professional.
Do some research on the college you want to go to – it’s always good to be able to ask the interviewers a question, and if you know something about the place (or its specialisms etc) you’ll be more able to do this.
Take some time to properly think about what your interests are, and what you may want to do in the future – think about ALL your interests as they will like to know you are well-rounded. Different colleges offer different A Levels too, so check what they offer.
And for your own sake, (remembering some former questions of yours,) look into how supportive they seem – will they provide you with the support you need to continue your education in spite of any other influences in your life?
You’ll be just grand :-)
One question they will probably ask is, why us? Why do you want to go to our college? Know enough about the school and what they value to be able to answer this in a thoughtful way.
The only college I applied to that required an interview was one that strongly emphasized teamwork, and the first question she asked me was to talk about a time I had worked in a group. I was totally caught off guard! My group work experiences in high school had not been positive, and I think I ended up coming off like a bad team player. Don’t know if that’s something your college highly values, but if so they’re probably likely to ask about that as well.
@Mariah Thanks! I’ll deffo keep that in mind.
Think about what you bring to the college too. What are your strengths and weaknesses? How do your strengths add to the college and what have you done to address your weaknesses? Most of all relax and don’t fidget or get nervous. Come up with a calm thought before you go. If you start to get nervous have that thought close by.
