What's the fastest you've ever had something delivered (via mail of some sort)

Asked by tedd (14088points) May 1st, 2012

So as I’ve mentioned at some point on Fluther, I’m in the process of building an arcade/mame cabinet. Last Friday I ordered a boatload of parts for the thing; joysticks, buttons, wires, decals, cup-holders, etc, etc. The parts are coming from all over the place too; Arizona, Florida, New York, and even London. I don’t need the part from London for a week or two, so I wanted to order ahead of time and make sure it got here on schedule.

Well the package from Florida is set to arrive today. So I check the tracking numbers last night before bed… sure enough my package from Florida just arrived in my town. The package from London is in East-Midlands, in the UK still.

About 10:30 (45ish minutes ago) I log in again to check the tracking numbers. The package from Florida is out for delivery, great. The package from London… has arrived, and they tried to deliver it at 10:03. I am utterly blown away. In ten hours that package went from the UK to my doorstep.

I’ve ordered from overseas before, and it’s never been bad on the delivery time.. but my god. DHL must have some motherf*cking transporters or something! I have a package coming from Ohio… the state I live in… and it still isn’t here.

What’s the fastest you’ve ever had something delivered.

I routinely deal with a supply company called McMaster-Carr for all kinds of supplies. I work in central Chicago, and they’re in a western suburb. If I get an order in to them by 11AM-ish, it usually shows up by mid-afternoon. And that’s without my specifying any special expedited shipping, just base rate delivery.

That kind of responsiveness goes such a long way to building goodwill and loyalty.
I love you, McMaster-Carr!

@thorninmud We use them at my job. Pretty solid/good experience so far. But that’s not shipping overseas… (thankfully).

Overnight without asking / paying for it.

Ordered it on a Tuesday AM from the internet; had it on my steps Wednesday afternoon.

People still send stuff? Like….with a mailman? Isn’t from the 40s or something?

Just kidding, it still takes 3–6 days for me to get something. People send me stuff from Oregon and I live in NJ.

@Blackberry Well until they figure out a way to send joysticks through e-mail, I’ll have to stick with shipping :).

Next day, free delivery, same state or across the US. Ordered one night, delivered following afternoon so about 16 hours.
