Why are manual transmissions in cars making a big comeback?
I noticed manual transmissions are becoming more common in cars recently. I don’t have a problem with it, and as long as the car has some power I prefer it, but why would it become more popular today with an aging population and other demographics. What’s changed in cars?

They get better gas mileage.
@chyna I would have thought laziness would outweigh that advantage.
I had to go two towns over to find a Honda with a stick shift….
Chyna is correct, Manual transmission autos do get better gas mileage than a heavy automatic.
I can’t drive automatic transmission cars. If you live through New England winters or have any interest in having some control over your car, automatics are just unacceptable.
I’m not sure that they ever left. You have always been able to purchase a manual car model on almost everything manufactured. A lot of dealers didn’t stock them because they weren’t all that popular, but if you wanted to wait a couple weeks, they could be found.
I drove manuals for 15 years and automatics for about the same amount of time. Both have their pluses and minuses. Definitely a better driving experience with a manual – it’s more fun and you have better control.
But to each his own.

Are they really?
What does “recently” mean? If the past five years, maybe; If the past 70 years, maybe not.
They’re more fun to drive. You have more control over what happens when. you can GO FASTER MORE FASTER!!! I didn’t get my first automatic until I was 39.
Probably has a lot to do with gas mileage but aren’t stick shifts also less expensive (but also have lower Blue Book). Years ago I had a friend tell me “if I drove an automatic what would I do with my right hand, pick my nose?”
