An example of a song you've liked over the years, that surprised you a little?

For whatever reason, maybe it was a tune you’d not normally associate yourself with, or the artist is not one you’d ever listen to, much less enjoy.

O.K. This is one of my guilty pleasures. I know it was a big hit and a lot of people love this song, so do I. It’s just generally not the kind of song I would normally “associate” myself with as you say, and Lee Ann Womack is not someone I would generally listen to but I love this song.

I Hope You Dance

It’s makes me want to hug all my friends and wish this all for them.

I was taken by the song Rhythm of Love by the Plain White Ts when I heard it used for a commercial.

It was not my style of music at all, but I love the lead singer’s voice.

Some rap
Some Johnny Cash
Some Lady Gaga
Some Michael Jackson
Some disco
...and lately, because I am getting old….I am finding I can tune into K-Earth 101 here in LA which has always been an “oldies” station….now it is playing stuff from the 50s, 60, 70s, and 80s…..I always associated it with 50s and 60s.

Not liking John Lennon songs a bit I was surprised some weeks ago when my radio station played a song of him that I actually liked, a lot.

Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! bö
wakawa poussé, poussé

@Charles LOL. That’s when I knew I was getting old too. When the “oldies” stations were playing things from 60s, 70s and 80s

@marinelife beat me to it.
I usually listen to harder, more scary sounding music. And I hate The Plain White T’s. But Rhythm Of Love is amazing.

I was blown away by this song the first time I heard it. I usually listen to acoustic, singer songwriter stuff….not that I don’t like Rock. Jazz etc…I was just amazed how this song pushed its way into my brain. The heavy beat just keeps banging away and Gwen is so great you just can’t help but love it! I remember playing it over and over for a couple weeks after I discovered it. I even played it for friends and kept asking them “Isn’t this great??! I think this is so fucking great!” They didn’t think so, but I still love it as much as ever. Keep on dancin’......

The song came out in the 1980s, I really hated it at the time but over the last few years I have come to feel the exact opposite about it, I cannot hear it without feeling happy, the video is old, I had never watched it before actually but when I saw the question I immediately looked for it on the web, here it is, The Patea Maori Club and their huge hit Poi E

Adagio That video is hilarious. The dog getting in on the pom pom action, the little boy channeling his inner superhero, the guy on the roof who must have been watching a lot of Michael Jackson videos (or was Michael watching him?) and the bad 80’s hair! Priceless.
