How do you arrange for a jitney, or whatever that little passenger cart is that shuttles people from one airport gate to another?

Asked by Jeruba (56062points) May 15th, 2012

If you have a problem walking and you have a really short layover for changing planes, how do you arrange for a ride from one gate to another in a big airport? say, Charlotte, NC?

Either when you get the ticket, when you board the plane, or ask the flight attendant early in the flight to have one standing by for you.

Actually, I would do the first two and ask the flight attendant to check that it will be there for you.

We marked the “assistance” choice when we purchased the tickets, plus notified the desk clerk upon arrival at the airport.

At airport check-in.

Follow-up Q: Is this the kind of service we tip for, and if so, how much?

One is not expected to tip for such service. It is offered as a courtesy to members of the flying public who require assistance.

RE tipping. From Miss Manners.

Electric cart driver: If you hitch a ride on an airport’s electric cart and the driver delivers you — timely and safely — to your destination, a $2—$3 tip would be appropriate. After all, it’s a special skill maneuvering a vehicle through concourses crowded with pedestrians who may be talking on a cell phone, eating a sandwich, rushing to a gate, or simply zoned out. Feel free to tip more, of course, if you’ve thoroughly enjoyed what sometimes turns out to be a wild rolling race down a concourse.
