Ray Bradbury – who needs no introduction, and Herb Reed – the last surviving member of the Platters (sang Bass).
RIP
Man, I loved the Platters. Smoke gets in my eyes right about now.

The Platters were terrific! I was sure sorry to hear of Herb Reed’s passing.
So don’t crucify me for what I am about to say, but when I saw Ray Bradbury died, I did a tiny happy dance. ONLY BECAUSE I HATED THE BOOK! I’m not happy because someone died! But I really hated that book. When I read it when I was younger, I couldn’t understand it. I had to watch the movie first and then try and read it.
I have loved Ray Bradbury’s books since I was a kid. My dad was a big fan so we always had his latest book on hand. I am sure when I was only 8 some things went over my head but I still enjoyed them..
Sigh… I love The Platters.
And Ray… I loved The Illustrated Man, and I Sing the Body Electric…I was so young when I first read that, and it was… I lived that book.
As long as I can read his work, he isn’t really gone, for me.
We had a mini-memorial already (last week) for Ray here
Oh, Ray Bradbury. As a young midwestern American reader I was in love with his books and the way they connected me to the places that my parents and grandparents knew.
I met him at the LA Times / UCLA book fair about ten years ago.
I stammered out some clumsy complement and he was kind and gracious.
@Ponderer983 I also have to ask, in reference to Ray Bradbury…the book? That book? Ray Bradbury wrote a hell of a lot of books. You’re going to judge him on just one; that you didn’t like? And if you are, what book might that have been?
Sorry to see Herb Reed go. Love The Platters.
@lillycoyote Fahrenheit 451. Sorry I thought “the book” was self explanatory when in reference to him. Kind of like “the pill” lol. I was not judging him on the one book, I’m saying I did not like that book.
