Where if a good place to vacation if your going alone?
It can be anywhere actually. Wanna keep it under $3000 for 10 days to two weeks. Live in Los Angeles

I had a really great time in Iceland in 2002
Well - if you feel like going overseas I can really recommend the south of France (Provence).
But all depends on what kind of vacation you want though.
I have traveled alone to Mexico (Oaxaca), Prague and Budapest, Greece (best spot there for me was Tolo), and am going this fall to Barcelona. The challenge I have found is to be comfortable having dinner by yourself. Visiting sites, seeing the cities, and having other meals alone was fine. I've avoided places like Hawaii that will be filled with honeymooners. The rest depends on what you like to do--I love museums, galleries, cities that are not geared to tourists. Hotels that have shared breakfasts can be fun, since that is a good way to meet people. And if a hotel has a pool, that can be a centralized place to meet people as well. In Oaxaca, I changed to a hotel with a pool after being pretty lonely at another hotel, and immediately met some lovely people to do things with.
you can go to Crater Lake in Oregon. Its not necessarily a really fun place but it is definetly relaxing. the view from the lodge is breath-taking. Its a 12 hour drive from LA but you can always fly. Its a great place to just sit back, think and enjoy nature. you can get rooms at the lodge right in front of crater lake for about $ 135 - 250 a night.

Guatemala is close, cheap, and has a major backpacker culture, so you could travel by yourself or meet up with people to travel with along the way.
I would go to costa rica and panama...... you can easily spend less than $1500 in 10 days!!! have fun!
New Zealand might be a good choice. From LAX, it's possible to get round trip fares under $1000 US (I found Air Pacific through Kayak.com and even got to stop through Fiji) leaving you 2 grand with which to get around and see some things. NZ is a friendly and safe place, good for the solo traveller. My roommate hosts "couch surfers" and their experiences were uniformly good with regards to the hospitality of the locals. I can speak from experience that 2 weeks isn't a super long time to try to see all of the country, so you might want to pick and island (north or south) and explore more in depth. All that said, it's also winter time here, so lots of rain and cold (especially in the southern parts). If you're looking for something around October/November, you'd be hard pressed to beat a trip down under!
When travelling alone I quite enjoyed city trips. Simply because you have everything more or less reachable via public transportation. But 2 weeks is quite a long time so perhaps 3 cities then ;-)
It also depends if you are specifically looking to be alone, or if you want to meet people. There are some group trips taht are pretty cool if you are looking to meet people, and often way under 3,000 dollars. A company called Backroads leads bike trips all over the US and abroad, so you can go alone but meet lots of people there--it is a bit pricey but I have a firend who leads trips with them and says that the trips are all amazing. There are also yoga retreats and surfing camps and kayak trips in Mexico, which is cheap to get to from LAX. I had a great time traveling alone in Oaxaca, Mexico a few years ago, but there has been some political unrest there lately so you might want to do some research to see what the current status is.
i hate flying too far and i like places that speak english. actually my FAVE city in the world is actually San Francisco. i could move there and never leave.
but for something more exotic i highly recommend Hawaii. i was so impressed with it. and the best part is you can choose islands with hardly any people/all nature OR go to where the busy part is with malls etc. gorgeous place. and very safe. but make sure it isnt hurricane season.
