Is there a website for last minute travel?

Asked by Yvening_Star (148points) July 2nd, 2012

I have three days off from work for the 4th of July holiday, but have no idea where I want to go. Does anyone know if there is a site that is dedicated for last minute travel? Also if there is a site where a person can punch in their departure city, their budget, and then have a list of options suggested to them? I’m not very picky, I just want to get out of town. Thanks.

Hi, welcome to Fluther.

I booked a pretty cheap last-minute flight through Travelocity! You punch in your locations, dates, and an estimated “bet” price you are willing to pay, and William Shatner does his best to make it happen for you :)

I’m passing along some tips a colleague of mine gave me before I booked a flight this summer; maybe it will be helpful to you too:

“The best day to purchase the tickets is on Tuesdays (around 3pm EST). The best days to actually schedule the flights are Wednesdays, followed by Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Here’s a helpful website: http://www.farecompare.com/travel-advice/tips-from-air-travel-insiders/

Good luck and have a great vacation :)

Here are a few sites I found quickly on Google:

Trip Mama
Kayak Last Minute Deals
Last Minute Travel

(more are to be found at the Google link above)

If you are near a port www.vacationstogo.com is great for last minute cruises. Cruises are one of those things that actually go way down in price last minute, while flights tend to skyrocket in price. The are some exceptions, looks like @bookish1 got lucky.

Do you want to tell us where you live and maybe we can recommend a short trip you may not have thought of if you wind up driving?
