What are you like when you haven't gotten enough sleep?

Asked by Mama_Cakes (11172points) July 3rd, 2012

I got zero hours of sleep on the weekend. Up from Friday morning to Sunday night. I am slowly catching up on sleep now. Let me tell you, having a normal conversation with anyone was hard. I was even doing some self talk “don’t say anything stupid!!!”. I have a cracking headache right now and will do my best to get a full 8 hours tonight.

(I feel like one of those dudes on bath salts)

Logy, lethargic, tongue-tied and generally an all-round dopiness.

I have lived all of my life sleep depribed. I hate sleep. I never wake up rested, and it takes me the entire day to wake up. HOGWASH I SAY.

I turn into a raving crackpot that has almost no grip on reality. The bad thing is that I’m a night owl…..

Yowza, sorry to hear that @Mama_Cakes. Best wishes for sound sleep tonight! Don’t forget to DRINK LOTTA WATAR! Staying up all night dehydrates you more than you’d think.

I have LOTS of trouble speaking my native language, my temperature fluctuates all over the place, and I become more emotionally fragile—much more quick to become angry or sad. Also, my blood sugar level becomes much more unstable, and I can go from 70 (that’s the “I haven’t eaten all day and I’m shaky and morose” feeling to you non-diabeats) to 400 (almost “go-to-the-ER” time) in an hour.
This is why I try to make it a priority to sleep enough!
I only did about 4 or 5 all-nighters my whole time in college, 1 in grad school, and I honestly hope I won’t have to do one again.

I get all teary. It is bad. I hate it. The tiniest things make me very sad
My friend very slightly implied that perhaps I should stop trying to get him to tell me his deep dark secrets today and I’m still dwelling on it. This is especially silly of me because it is a known flaw of mine, taking my introspective moments out on others. (I haven’t slept since yesterday.)

Anxious, sleepy, on edge and ready to doze off. I have no energy at the best of times, so if I haven’t slept I feel comatose!

Even more exhausted, crabby, and emotional than I usually am. I’m scary when I miss sleep.

A lot like when I’m drunk minus the fun part.

Lack of sleep is pretty much the norm for me; I am shocked by how productive I am when I do get a good night’s sleep.

I’m kind of spaced out; slow on the uptake and fuzzy around the edges. A short nap will help.

Really fucking annoying. Even to myself. Pity the poor people who have to work with me when I’m on call for 72 hours at a time.

Even when I was manic, I got at least two hours of sleep each night. Mostly, I got three or four hours. Not enough, but I never went without it entirely, as many bipolar people do.

So the truth is, I don’t think I really know what I’m like when I’m completely sleep deprived. As it is, I get about seven hours a night, and I’m always falling asleep. I think that when I’m really sleep deprived, I can’t remember a thing. I’m constantly tuning out and falling asleep. I can’t understand what people are saying.

Fortunately, most people build massive redundancy into their conversation, so if you miss it the first time around, you might get it the second or third time. Or you could just say you didn’t understand.

But basically, the less sleep I have, the stupider I get.

Since it happens so rarely, I don’t notice any particular difference from any other day.

I am a board certified pain in the ass.

I’m usually not that much different. I’m just a lot quieter. Sometimes I’m cranky, but only if it was someone else’s fault that I didn’t sleep enough. If I just stayed up, or got busy, I’m fine. But if someone was being loud while I tried to sleep, I’m pissed. >.<
My friends tell me all the time that in the morning, everyone comes in with the same tired look on their face. I don’t have the look, I just don’t say anything.
