What if your spouse was a prisoner in a different country?

Asked by chelle21689 (7907points) July 4th, 2012

You guys are going to think I’m crazy and need help lol but this is kind of a spin-off from my last question although I’m not as concentrated on that. But Iwas watching some show about this man who went to prison in Indonesia when he wasn’t even guilty. He was there for several years after many attempts to escape. His wife divorced him.

Anyways, I was wondering if you know your spouse is wrongfully convicted in another country what would you do? Same goes for if your spouse was a war prisoner in Iraq or Afghanistan. Do you think you could move on? Wouldn’t you feel bad to move on and be happy knowing that they are still alive and being tortured and miserable?

Again, it would depend so much on what the relationship had been as to whether I would stay totally loyal or move on at some point.

I think I’d be fighting for their freedom, not just saying “oh well.” This would be more so if she were a prisoner of war, but also if my spouse were mistakenly arrested in another country. Certainly Amanda Knox’s family didn’t give up.

If my spouse were rightfully imprisoned for a crime, depending on the crime and the sentence, I might move one. Committing a crime that separates you from your family is selfish.

I hear of some American reporters held as prisoners…the terrorists demanded things from us but they will not exchange a prisoner for another. I don’t know if he will be kept alive.

If they are wrongfully convicted, then I do everything I can to get them out.

I would rob a bank and get caught on purpose so we could serve the sentence together!
