Has anybody else come up with detachable pockets?

Asked by Nullo (22028points) July 4th, 2012

I was poking around a Great Britain-themed gift shop this afternoon ironic, isn’t it? :D and found a casual kilt that used a sort of hook-and-eye arrangement to permit one to add or remove specialized, modular, external pockets. You could also buy the pockets themselves and wear them on a belt. I was particularly interested because I’m the sort of person who likes to keep a lot of things in his pockets, and I don’t always have the room.
It seemed like a great idea, and I got to wondering: have we tried this before? Who did it? Did it work?

The Scots have been doing it for centuries, they call it a Sporran. I guess a bum-bag/fanny-pack counts too.

Here is a patent for them.

@downtide Given that they were presented within the context of kilt accessories, I would think that these particular ones that I saw were variations on the sporran.
