What is the difference between SO grid references and SN grid references?

Asked by bongo (4302points) July 9th, 2012

I am confused why I have got SN grid references for some of my sites but now I have come to change the GPS references from degrees minutes and seconds into Lat and long then into an Ordinance survey grid reference the reference is no longer an SN reference (which I am used to using) but instead comes up as SO. Why is this and are they the same thing?

The ordnance survey splits the UK up into 100km squares. SN covers south west Wales and SO covers south east Wales and part of England (mainly Herefordshire if memory serves).
