Do you think it's okay to try some drugs?

Asked by minnie19 (435points) July 9th, 2012 from iPhone

Do you feel like it’s okay since we only live once?

Let’s say lsd, ecstacy, etc. Not hardcore ones like heroin.

I would answer personally for me, no.

I think it is probably stupid. I did it.

gail, I love you. You’re just so sweet and sympathique.

I did psychedelics back in the 80s. If you are stable minded, it’s not so bad.

nikipedia's avatar

Under the right circumstances, sure.

Under the wrong circumstances, no way.

YARNLADY's avatar

I would never try and have never tried any drug that was not prescribed by my own doctor.

chyna's avatar

If a person has an addictive personality or has mental issues, I’d say no.

My answer is a combo of @jazmina88 “If you are stable minded, it’s not so bad.” and @nikipedia ref the right circumstances.

Know that drugs like lsd and ecstacy amplify what’s going on in your mind, sometimes to a grand extent. They are not to be taken casually. If you are a worrier or paranoid or insecure etc you will have a terrible time.
If you are someone who faces the world with wonder and awe you can have a literally miraculous time.

Also your company and context are vitally important. Be with people you trust and who will support each other in a friendly manner. Have plenty of water and remember to drink it.
Plan to have time to enjoy the ‘trip’, maybe a nice time in nature or some quiet place. Nothing urgent and nothing complicated. Plan to NOT be driving. And do yourself a favor and plan to rest the next day after getting your nervous system to run a marathon. If you can take it easy the day before, certainly get plenty of sleep ahead of time.

Do not take anything like those drugs anywhere near a crowd until you have had some experience with them. Just the sensory overload can be overwhelming and tiring.
Do NOT take a lot at first, give it time(an hour at least) before thinking you might need more. Not enough is way better than too much. With too much you can find yourself, after hours and hours of trippin’, still driven by the nervous activity. Your heightened awareness will be of your exhaustion, ugh.
Take some B complex vitamins a day or two before to fortify your nervous system. And maybe afterward too.

Smile. Kiss a flower.

p.s. LSD and ecstacy are pretty hardcore (as is heroin) and should be respected. But they are not addictive at all, and the experience of them is very different from opiates.

I would say no. Just like with prescription drugs, recreational drugs can have bad side effects and/or interfere with or cause medical problems that you didn’t know you had. Like congenital problems that may not yet have been discovered by your doctor.

At least with prescription drugs, there are already warnings on the package about not using them if have X, Y or Z conditions. Recreational drugs have no warnings and since they have not been extensively tested (because they’re illegal) you have no real idea what they could do to you, even if all of your friends never had a bad reaction.

Also, with prescription drugs, you are being monitored by a physician. Not the case with recreational drugs. Even if something did go wrong, you wouldn’t be able to bring the package with you, you know the one with the true ingredients list, to show the emergency room doctors. In an emergency situation, time is everything.

My cousin is an emergency room nurse. She said illicit drug problems, alcohol related issues and car accidents are what she deals with the most. Oh, and then gunshot wounds, which are often the result of being high on illicit drugs or alcohol. Just sayin’

Do it up! Let us know how you like it!

My cousin died of an accidental drug overdose last month. She was 22. I wouldn’t wish what happened to her or the suffering that her family is going through on anyone.

I would say no. I know everyone does at some point, but I sure got into trouble with drugs and no one wakes up and says’ I am going to ruin my life with drugs!” it snowballs.

It’s a risk I personally wouldn’t take. The consequences vary from person to person and you never know until you do it, how it will affect you. I’m a cautious risk taker. And this is NOT on my bucket list.

LSD is pretty hardcore. So is ecstasy really.

JLeslie's avatar

I haven’t tried any. The only thing close is alcohol, been drunk a handful of times.

According to the head of the DEA, no. All drugs are equally bad.

I have done a few…

Weed: High right now.
Booze: Got a few in me.

Meth: I was told it was Cocaine. Not pleasant. I felt really dirty and just wanted a shower.
Cocaine: Probably did it about 20 times, never paid for it. Spendy as fuck.
Ecstasy: Fucking lovely if you can get good stuff. I’m shooting around 25% to get legit
Crack: Smoked some weed with it on it. Like Coke with a Exponent but more fighty,
LSD: The walls still drip. It has never visually gone away.

Pills…. I fucking love all of them besides the barbiturates.

I had a friend who did a lot of LSD. He told me I never should – he thought I would have a bad trip. Maybe he saw something in me I am not aware of.

Years ago I did cocaine, marijuana and alcohol, but nothing for more than 30 years, and I won’t any more.

Variety is the spice of life and you only live once. Try a bunch and see which suit you.

Facade's avatar

Sure, as long as you go about it in an educated and controlled way. I’d love to explore hallucinogens more, but I have no desire to ingest substances like heroin or meth.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I don’t care what people choose to put in their own bodies but I don’t think it’s ok to fuck up other people’s lives by doing so. Anyone who has ever been close to an addict will know how soul destroying the lying and deceit can be. If you want to “try some drugs” because life is too short then feel free but don’t lie, steal from or put other lives in danger whilst getting your fix.

PurpleClouds's avatar

No. No. No. No. Why would you?

Paradox25's avatar

In theory I would say no here. Ecstacy definitely is not harmless, and it has been proven to cause permanent brain damage in some people after just a few doses, not chronic use. Natural psychoactive drugs such as marijuana can even have negative effects on people, I know this because I used to be a chronic user of it myself, and sometimes your life can revolve around just getting high. I’ll use weed occasionally, but not like I used to.

This is too personal of a question to answer with a simple yes or no here. We are all different beasts, so the only thing that I can say is choose wisely, and stay away from the bath salts! Most of my own disasters and loss of loved ones resulted from alcohol, not illegal drugs, but this doesn’t mean that there is a safe drug either.

I apologize if this has already been touched on, but I thought it necessary to add:

“43 percent of those who reported ecstasy use met the accepted diagnostic criteria for dependence,” and, “Almost 60 percent of people who use MDMA report withdrawal symptoms.”

These are from About.com.

Having personally dabbled with this drug in the past, I would not recommend it. Not only does it distort reality during use (and yes, you can experience a bad trip from MDMA), but it also changes how you view pleasure after use. Nothing ever quite feels the same; it spoils you, in a sense, which is why people keep going back to it.
