Do you have a certain date the seems to keep popping up in your life?

Asked by chyna (51598points) July 12th, 2012

The 19th seems to be a date that keeps popping up for me. I started my first job on the 19th and worked there for 30 years, I closed on my house on the 19th, I got married on the 19th (and had met him on the 19th eleven months previously), divorce was final on the 19th, and now I start a new job on the 19th.
What date or even week day pops up for you for happenings in your life?

My son, my mother-in-law, and myself were all born on the same day of the same month. That’s about all I can think of.

Not in my life itself, but an ex of mine noticed after our relationship ended that all of the significant events in the relationship happened on the 22nd of some month, the day we met, a few other important dates and the day we finally broke up. Interesting, but I don’t think the number will reoccur for me or him as individuals, but rather was a result of us as a couple.

No, but yayayayay to the new job. What are you going to be doing?

July 19 is my ex’s birthday. Does that count?

There is a cluster of people in my extended family that were all born in late August – different years of course.

2 people on the 17th
2 people on the 20th
1 person on the 28th
1 person on the 29th
1 person on the 30th

All that tells me is that there was a lot of nookie going on around the previous Thanksgiving weekend.

Well, my birthday seems to keep coming up year after year…

Seriously, though, what you are experiencing is the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon (also known as the frequency illusion). It’s when your brain latches onto something and then selectively emphasizes things that confirm that pattern. My friends and I used to play a game of this when we were in high school called “the curse of 44.”

We would tell someone that from that moment forward, they would see the number 44 everywhere and could only stop it by passing it on to someone else. Because these things are all in the head, it works amazingly well. I was particularly notorious for constantly increasing the number of players by always passing it back immediately to whoever gave it to me and then finding someone else to give it to as well.

It just seems like that to me, because I’m a(n) historian.

I always notice things happening or that have happened on July 19th, as that is my birthday.

@SavoirFaire I see 111 or 1111 everywhere and I had wondered why. Interesting phenomenon to read up on. Maybe now 111 will stop showing up!

Not a particular date but important things in my life seem to have happened in the month of September. Also when I look at my watch at random in the mornings it is quite uncanny how often it is 10 minutes passed 10. Spooky in a gentle unscary sort of way.
