Has the "Rock Ballad" died?

Asked by pezz (1291points) July 14th, 2012

I was listening to some old cds by UFO the other day and found myself singing away to some of the ballad type tracks, wondering if anyone produced tracks like that any more? I know music moves through styles, but there’s always someone continuing in the same genre. Who makes the new classics or has the Rock Ballad disappeared like disco?

I love UFO. Listen to “Your Decision”, by Alice in Chains. I don’t youtube, but if you can find it give it a listen.

I hope so, what a fucking din!

@pezz I’m afraid you’re going to have to expand a little.

@ucme Well your either too young for punk or too old for rock, and with your use of the word “fucking” and the current trend towards “rap”, I simply thought that with your narrow outlook, your choice would be RAP!

@pezz Narrow oulook, that made me laugh. No, it’s just rock ballads are fucking cheesy shit, it really is that simple. Oh & for the record, rap is crap too.

I think if you wrote a rock ballad today it would have to be ironic. The last one I remember was for milk.

How’s this for ironic?

fundevogel's avatar

@ucme I don’t know what to do with that.

ucme's avatar

Do nothing, it’s often the best way.
