Just had emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder. I'm going home today. What should I expect for the near and present future.

I’m still in pain. My gallbladder was removed by laproscopic surgery. I have a drain in, which they will remove before I go home.
I’m just wondering what to expect.

The gallbladder produces bile. used to break down fats.
You might find fatty foods troublesome.
Wishing you a quick and uncomplicated recovery.
Immediately after my gallbladder surgery, I had about three days of pain and gas from the surgery. One of the entry holes for the laproscopic surgery gave me a tiny bit of trouble because it is in a place that was irritated when I bent over. I had my surgery about 10 years ago and to this day, I have to watch what I eat. No grease or spicy food for me or I get sick.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I don’t really have any information or advice, I just wanted to say that I am sorry that you are going through this and to wish you a speedy and fully recovery.
Oh goodness. I’m afraid I don’t know much on the matter @tinyfaery , but I really hope you get better real soon and that it won’t trouble you in the future. Best wishes going your way.
(((((( hug )))))))
Speedy recovery. First your toe, and now this. Sucks.
A hug from me too. My Dad had the surgery about 20 years ago and did not have a rough recovery as far as I can remember.
Never had it but I worked with someone who did, who was out of work about a month. She said she had a lot of pain on recovery from gas, and she lost some weight while she was out.
Best luck and best wishes on a speedy recovery. Hugs!
Ooh, losing weight. Right now my pants won’t fit over my huge belly. :(
That feeling, the bloat from the surgery, and the lingering sluggishness and blah from the anesthesia, @tinyfaery, should subside in a few days. Get some sleep and rest to help your body heal. You should leave the hospital with some pain meds.
Don’t know anything about this particular surgery, but gonna hand out my general surgery advisory: if you have trouble with your appetite after surgery, which isn’t uncommon, and you don’t eat much, consider waiting longer than the generic 10–14 days before getting your staples/stitches/whatever they closed you up with removed. Proper nutrition is really important to healing, and if you’re not getting good enough nutrition, the incision won’t heal at the expected rate.
Sorry this happened! I hope you heal up quickly. In my experience, bouncing back from laparoscopic surgery doesn’t take too long. Don’t be stingy on the pain meds, and treat yourself kindly for a while.
Have pain meds. Have bed. Will eat well. But for now…sleep.
That’s important too!! Good luck, dear. Keep us posted.
Ugh- I’m sorry. I wish you a quick and uneventful recovery.
If the incisions produce some greenish pus you might be an antibiotic to clear the infection, usually clears up easily. Like with any wound, if it become inflammed and the redness begins growing rapidly, say a centemeter every 12 hours, or you get red streaks that is an emergency.
You will be sore for a few days, don’t lift anything heavy, get up slowly when going from lying down or sitting to standing.
The people I know have zero complications eating after their gall bladder is removed, but I have read some people have trouble with fatty foods.
Sorry to hear about the emergency, I know gall bladder emergency is typically acutely painful, usually described as worse than giving birth by women who have had children.
