Have you ever had a cat diagnosed with FIP?

Asked by Buttonstc (27605points) August 6th, 2012 from iPhone

Any info you can share would be appreciated. I am aware of the two types and that the “wet” type is fairly quickly fatal. So, I’m more interested in the “dry” type.

How did they determine that it was FIP?

How old was the cat?

What happened to the cat; short term or long term.

What treatments were effective, (if any)?

Yes, just pm’d you.
Awful disease, just awful. I had never had the expereince in 30+ years of cat ownership until I lost my 15 month old adoptee ” Marley” a year ago June. I had him for 8 months before the disease came on.

I hope I never encounter it again, ever.
No test, no cure, no ryhme or reason why some cats get it. It is a mutated version of the Corona virus that usually causes no ill effects and passes through cats undetected. In a few susceptible ones it mutates into the FIP condition and the only treatment is supportive care and euthanasia, sadly.
