What is the gist of having landed rover on the Gale Crater?
Also, any information on how long it’s nuclear battery will have it powered?

I’m not really sure what you are asking. Are you wanting to know why that spot was selected to land or why we even tried putting something on Mars?
The crater was chosen because it is believed to be the most likely place to find evidence of life. The crater is thought to be the bed of an ancient lake.
@WestRiverrat is correct. Also, this site seems to have different exposed layers, so they will be able to view older and older soil samples without digging far.
