Who likes poetry? Does it make you emo?

no it doesnt make you emo. you’d have to be depressed all the time, cut yourself, and complain about life even though you have nothing to complain about to be emo.

ugh… Not all poetry is “emotional”. There are way too many varietys and styles of poetry to call it “emo”. And no, it doesn’t necessarily make you one if you’re into poetry.

@8lights; I think you’re mistaking emo with severe depression- I did all that stuff but never was “emo”. Emo is just some stupid trend, and diff styles of clothing.

I love poetry although I don’t have time to actually write any. I love looking up sites for poetry with good meanings too, I really don’t get how poetry and being emo can link together in any way, I guess unless you’re writing about how you love to be emo? I may be wrong, I’ve just never heard the two in the same sentence. And those are two different things, there is the emo personality then there is the emo life. Poetry is a way to extend your imaginative writing. Emo is just….pain.

@TheHaight: It was a semi-joke. That is what every emo kid I’ve ever known has identified themselves with. But certainly the clothes go with it too. I know theres people who do those things who are not emo… but emo ppl do it too, or pretend to. But I’m sorry about your depresssion, haight, and I’m glad you’re better now :)
But really, poetry doesn’t make you emo unless every other line has the phrases “black abyss” or “you ripped my heart out.” ;)
I love poetry as well, but I don’t think you could call me emo. I cry. that doesn’t make me emo either. I’ve been heartbroken and I was depressed and that doesn’t make me emo. Emo is kind of something you have to try to be, I guess. Its a dumb trend of ppl thinking its cool to be depressed or something.

depression really has nothing to do with being emo. it’s mostly a style of clothing and a wanna be attitude. some kids who are depressed also like to put on the emo persona but you definitely can’t consider all depressed people emo

ugh! Emo, I hate that word with a passion. Your friends are not thinking outside the box. Let them in on some of your poems and maybe they’ll understand

I did. They read them but just cause I read it and write it they think I’m emo…. Yeah I hate emo too.

basically, youre friends are like many people and they will find anything to give you sh*t about just like you’ve probably done to them before. Best thing to do, ignore their teasing other wise itll just fuel them more and make them continue to make fun of you

Ok, I can’t help it, you posted the video. The dude has a double-neck guitar… 1. he doesn’t use the second neck. 2. he’s almost always playing power chords on it. 3. he doesn’t deserve a double neck, he doesn’t have the talent. I mean come on, if you’re going to have a double-neck, have the guts and the chops to use it.
But as for your question, that song was borderline emo. The intro saved it, as did the attempt at a pseudo-metal solo.
I will not comment further because I realize people have different taste in music and that would be threadjacking (not that i hated the song or anything). On the plus side, there were some good pinch harmonics in the beginning.

hahah its ok i dont care what people think about what i listen to.. i like all kinds of music .. from spanish.. EMO.. spanish rock.. calssic rock.. metal.. rap r&b anything basically..

but yeah i agree he doesnt really use the double guitar thingy..hahh. i really do like the music though.. if the song didnt have singing it would be sooo much more awesome.. BUT i like it anyway.. :)

i guess it’s part of the lyrics and the song build up, but im pretty harsh, to me breaking benjamin is emo too

It takes talent and a great deal of thought to be able to do that. Sounds like maybe a bit of jealousy there, if you ask me. Not all people can write it, especially well. Keep it up, it’s a lost art. Try to learn how to write it in another language as well. You’ve got a lucky gf, and as long as she appreciates it, that’s all that matters.

it’s not always fun, my ex made me write her holliday poems “baby, i’m no good, and you’re good at it”, that happend to 2 different girlfriends…im just a sucker for girls i guess…

I like poets. They tend to be imaginative people, that is they imagine people like listening to their poems.

@melly, haha yeah, actually the song is kinda good without the singing…. but I hate his vocal style so yeah, lol. To me, a song is qualified emo mostly by its music and vocal style. The lyrics typically follow… I mean you never hear someone singing political RATM-like lyrics with fallout boy vocals.

How to be Emo?

…looks like teacher asked someone to write a poem for his homework instead of a theme and he is letting the green monster get the best of him.

Someone may be staying after school and writing standards on the chalkboard if he isn’t careful.

thats totally stupid, i hate this prejudice! you only have to wear black clothes, or with stripes and black hair, (thats optional) and listen to punk music or something than youre an emo! i love poetry too, i love black and love rock and punk music, im not emo! i was never, and i will never be an emo! you are not an emo only because you like poems! dont listen to that! i never said that i dont like emos or there style, but i really hate this way to think about other people…the questions are stupid, not: who are you? but: WHAT are you…
