Is the 2009 movie "The Messenger" a remake?

I remember the cover of this film. I remember the “E” being an american flag. I think it was with an old big time actor… I thought it was Gene Hackman but I was incorrect. It is from the 70s or 80s I think. I cannot find it on IMDB… but I know I saw it on netflix.

I dont think it is a remake. It was nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay and if it had been based on a previous work it would not be eligible.

Right – I think the old one was about cold war stuff. I remember the cover!!!!

It may have had a similar themes but then so do lots of things (particualrly war movies I suppose). That doesn’t make it a remake. Then of course it may just be that other designers have used the US flag in the same way to suggest a patriotic theme.
