What do you guys think of the Brandon Raub deal?
He was a decorated marine that was arrested for FB rants against the government. He was briefly detained in a psych ward. The conservatives are touting this as an example of the “Nazi state” our country has become. From what I’ve read, there were people complaining about his posts (He has 419 friends!) They thought he was dangerous. The conservatives would have you believe it’s a classic case of illegal invasion of privacy.
I say that after the Denver shootings, they were right to step in.

Every government’s first and foremost duty is to survive. Small wonder they took him in for a little chat ;-)
Someone was complaining about his posts. I say they thought he might be a serious threat to people. After the Denver tragedy, I don’t blame them for pulling him in.
Just how are the conservatives touting this example? Is he a member of this “Nazi state” or is he a “victim” of it?
Oh, they’re claiming that he was arrested simply for making anti-government comments on FB. In reading non-biased articles, he was making comments that had some people (I assume people he had friended on FB) worried, so they alerted authorities. The conservatives claim he’s a victim. His “right to free speech” was “trampled.” Hell, he sounds like a nut case to me.
Without knowing what all he actually posted, it’s hard to really have an opinion. If his FB friends reported him as potentially dangerous, though, and they do know what he posted, you’ve got to think they might be on to something.
Mostly harmless, even makes a couple of good points.
@augustlan Here is the only thing that I found. In brief, he’s anti-federal reserve, a 9/11 Truther, does not like nation-building or the U.N. – all flavors I have seen among our own jellies, I might add – and indulges in a couple of minor conspiracy theories (suspicions of useful technology being withheld and of a desire to implant people with microchips) After the Trutherism, the most offensive part is his spelling. No death threats, no targets beyond “they”, no call to illegal action.
I think it’s a bit much to be name-dropping “the conservatives” here. This is a cross-spectrum issue.
Considering the kind of stuff that turns up and is ignored in protest photo essays (and from the Left!), this is pretty tame.
@Nullo That in itself is a little nutty, but doesn’t sound dangerous to me. If there’s not more to it than that, no wonder people are upset about the situation. I can’t imagine he’s been detained over just that, though. I’d be really surprised if that’s the worst of what he posted.
