Are alkaline batteries safe if dropped?

Asked by nettodo (473points) August 25th, 2012

I accidentally dropped a bunch of alkaline batteries on the floor (about 1.25 ft from the floor), and was wondering if they could be used with abandon. I know that some manufacturers of Li-ion batteries warn against dropping, and was wondering if this applies to alkaline.

if they are ruptured it could shorten their life, but as long as they are not leaking, they are safe to use

They ought to be just fine when dropped from that height.

They’re safe as long as they are not leaking. Even if they leak, they aren’t dangerous but they really screw up whatever they power.
