Can Benadryl help with smoke irritation?

I live in MT, east of the wildfires in Idaho. The smoke here is out of control, and my eyes show it. Can Benadryl help manage my symptoms of red and swollen eyes? (I would look on the bottle, but don’t have one handy!)
