Lacrosse goalies, how far out of the net do you play when the ball is in your defensive end?

i play about a step from the crease but i didnt know if this was common or what

I’m not a goalie but those who I play with stand about a step out. Do you run down the field when you have the ball or do you always pass it off? Just curious.

it depends how much they are pressing me. as you most likely know goalies have 4 seconds to stay in the crease with the ball so if they are pressuring me i pass it off, but if they arent i run it as far as i can before i think ill lose it. the furthest down field i have gotten is top of the other box

Oh really? I thougth you couldn’t go past the half line.

you have to have a midfielder stay back for you just like when a defender goes across

I should really know that, I’ve been playing for 5 years but hey… :P
