It’s finally cooled off, and fall is in the air. What autumn plans do you have this year? Looking for new activities to enjoy the season.

We’re headed to a cabin in Shenandoah next weekend, got a great outdoor Halloween costume party coming up (with scary movies projected onto a giant screen in the middle of the woods), and a group trip to the Renn Faire next month.
This is the first year that we’ve got mad plans to decorate for Halloween, and I’m definitely looking forward to scaring the pee out of the local kids.
I’ll also be manning booths for work at the upcoming Pride, Woofstock, Music for Fences, and Walk for the Animals, which are all fun events that get me outdoors.
Catching some hockey would’ve been on the list, but so much for that. Still on the agenda, my wife and I are 50/50 on going to the Grand Canyon but that’s completely dependent on our winter plans which are very undecided at the moment. I’m taking my best friend to the Greenbrier for a few days. In general we’ll be getting out and hiking a lot – probably most weekends and if were lucky an overnight or two, almost certainly check out an Oktoberfest, definitely doing some apple picking (and associated cooking!), and likely more “going out” downtown once the heat and mosquitoes are stomped on a little more.
Less activity oriented, but still on the list, we’ll be “fall cleaning” – like spring cleaning but, you know, in fall. We’ve got a lot of plants in need of new pots, winterizing our property, and if we’re going to be hosting people for Christmas we’ll probably try to get our painting done early.
Oh, and let’s not forget watching some playoff baseball (I’ve got at least one team in and a couple others threatening, and if I’m lucky tickets to at least one game), lots of weekend grilling, chilly evening drinks out back, a good cigar or two on nice crisp fall nights, and plenty of fires in the fireplace (hopefully it’ll get cold enough soon!).
Work… A lot of artsy work :) Finally I get to do my passions in a professional way!
Not picking up leaves or driving in freezing rain.
I want to get in a couple bike rides and a picture taking trip to see the changing colors.
I also like Thanksgiving much more than Christmas.
Playing football. Nice bike riding conditions.
I don’t change my activities based on the season, mainly because I choose to live where the seasons are barely noticeable. There are hotter days in the summer/fall and colder days in the winter/spring, but it’s doesn’t change that much.
@wundayatta Only a little. Some people hate the same ol same ol, but I love it.
I’m looking forward to running a Halloween 5k race in a pumpkin costume! Haha also pumpkin picking, the family tradition.
One thing I really enjoy is putting up seasonal decorations around the house. I have nearly as much fall-themed stuff (not Hallowe’en but fall) as I have for Christmas.
I’m also looking forward to 2½ weeks away with my husband at a woodsy cottage in our favorite near-escape retreat in the Santa Cruz mountains. I think it’s the nicest time of year to be there, even though in this area we don’t see much in the way of fall color. I would love to make an autumn trip back to New England at least once more.
I just went to ren fest in my state, and it was awesome!
Mostly, fall food and wine. I’m going to cook lots of stuff with mushrooms, wild rice, and duck, and eat it with pinot noir, and I’m going to have steaks and cotes du rhone.
Also, hiking, apple picking, pumpkin carving, and other fun stuff at local farms.
