Anyone else own a Lenovo ideapad Z580?

Asked by noodle_poodle (1617points) September 18th, 2012

I have just purchased the ‘Ideapad’ and am wondering if there is something wrong with it. It doesn’t seem to like opening and moving files from DVDs. Anyone else have this problem, or know anything about how long file transfers should take. I have only just got it and it took nearly ten minutes to transfer 685meg of image files from dvd to desktop. Does that seem usually slow to anyone else especially for a new core i5 machine? I am wondering if i should send it back.

The CPU has nothing to do with it. The only real bottleneck is how fast the optical drive is. It takes my desktop about three minutes to do the same. But laptops generally use slower optical drives. I couldn’t find specifics for the drive in your laptop but it is probable 8X. Mine is 24X so the numbers kinda add up.

Speed seems within a acceptable range. But if there are problems besides speed something else could be wrong.

@Thanks that makes sense…after more use I found that its living up to its spec in every other way. I think its just the dvd drive is a little under powered.
