Multiple cat owners, do your cats play together?

Asked by Mama_Cakes (11173points) September 20th, 2012

Frankie (now, also known as Big Daddy) has a mini-me named Taliesin (named after a Welsh bard).

Tali is roughly 7 months. Frank is 12. I’m hoping that they’ll be there to entertain one another, as I’ll be busy in the next couple of months.

What precious angels!

My cats always played together, but they were the same age. I had a male cat and a female cat. The male was a bit more aggressive and would initiate playing more than the female, but for the most part, they got along.

Sadly, my girl kitty, Dusty, passed away last year. Dante (my boy cat) has now turned to playing with my two dogs, whom he outweighs by 10 lbs!

Yes, all the time.
My little female siamese “Mia” is only 7 lbs. and she does the take down on Myles who is 16 lbs. and triple her size. She is 3, he is coming up on 6 and have lived together for almost a year now. They are great buddies and race through the house every night playing and chasing each other. I am sure your two will form a great friendship.

Yes, my kitties usually play together, nap together, and occasionally get together for some kitty nookie.

@Coloma: Milo here: Myles is 16 pounds? Hide the brownies, please.

Coloma's avatar

@gailcalled Haha, yes, he is 15.9 lbs! The monster man!
He is not overweight at all, just big and tall and long and solid as rock with big bone structure, I have never seen a cat with such big legs and paws.

@Coloma; Longer and leaner than me?

When my g/f and I were planning to move in we were worried her cat wouldn’t get along with mine or my dog. Every attempt we’d had at “sleep overs” had gone shaky, with the best result being the cats just tacitly ignoring one another. Unfortunately her cat passed away a few weeks before we moved in (cancer we didn’t know about).

Her new cat at first was not too excited about my cat and especially not my dog. After a few weeks she would associate with my cat, and now several months in they outright play and wrestle all the time. My cat is 2–3 and her cat is 4ish though, so the ages are close. Her cat has also come to be ok with my dog being around.

Name change! Taliesin name has been changed to Bodhi.

Te name Tali wasn’t flying.

I have a big, sturdy cat that is not overweight. I think it’s more common in male cats.

I have three cats, and yes they do play together. They sleep together, they team up and antagonize me while I’m sleeping, and they eat together. They’re buddies.

My newest cat who is a little over a year old loves to play with my oldest cat who is 11. They love each other. The other cats don’t really play much, they never have. The new kitten is trying to lure the other cats into play. Sometimes it works, other times, oy.

The name has changed again, haha.

I didn’t really care for Bodhi. My g/f picked out. But, we settled on Higgs (full name Higgs Boson). Yes, my partner is a science geek!

Her reasoning: It’s very fitting because just about the time he was born, scientists observed what they think is the Higgs Boson for the first time. So it’s a fitting name.

@Mama_Cakes: Almost. Everyone who names a cat eventually uses two syllables endiing in y…I bet he becomes Higgsy soon (better than Higgy, which is too close to Piggy.)

I call Milo Miley half the time.

Mama_Cakes's avatar

Secretly, @gailcalled, I’ll call him Higgins. (=

I have an older (not elderly) cat and one who is just about a year old. I don’t know if “play” is the right word for what they do, but they do like to wrestle. They take turns being the aggressor, and chase each other around the house. Sooner or later, though, it always ends with the older one hissing loudly at the younger. “Enough!”, she seems to say. In between times, they groom each other, so I guess they like each other well enough.

I also like French names, so possibly Montaigu. I like the way that it rolls off of the tongue.

Totally. They play together, they nap and cuddle together, they clean each other (one has been designated Official Cleaner); they get along really well together.

My two cats Sheeba (12 years old) and Rocky (18 years old) generally just seem to mostly just tolerate each other. The both are about the same size (11 pounds). But Sheeba is the queen of the house and when she gets bored she will pick on Rocky by swatting at him and chasing him around. Rocky never fights back or has ever shown any aggression toward Sheeba even when I first brought her home as a tiny baby (weighing only ½ pound). He just tries to get away. But there doesn’t seem to be any bad feelings between then. Sometime I see them sleeping together.

I just recently adopted a 5 mo. old kitten. We call him Mango. He is a total love bug!! I also have a 1 yr old cat named Jack (short for Jack o’ lantern…can you guess when we got him? lol) and the last one is an old lady….BluLu and she’s about 12 yrs old. I got Jack originally because my kids and I needed something to love and keep busy with. Jack ended up wanting to play with Blulu and she hated it. She just wants to sleep all day. So I made the decision to get a kitten to hopefully keep Jack busy. It was the best decision I made! They love each other sleep together and clean each other. Of course they rough play too.

Not at all. They’ve never been fond of each other. They’re completely opposite personality wise and don’t like each other all that much.

I had two cats, brothers, Moxie and Pepsi, who played together constantly.
I know I am anthropomophising here but, Moxie was, in my opinion, somewhat mentally challenged. Most of the time he did not act like he was all there and his reflexes were slower than most other cats I have known. Also, he could not meow properly. It came out as an eh..eh….eh. sound. He was, however, deeply affectionate.
In addition to playing together, Pepsi seemed to watch out for, his brother; making sure he made it home safely in the evenings. At dark he would come inside and prowl around looking for Moxie. If he didn’t find him he would go to the door and mmmmmmmowl until I let him back out. Usually within 30 minutes he was at the door asking to be let back in and ALWAYS had his brother with him. He would stand at the food bowls and “call” until Moxie would come over and then sit back and watch him eat. Once he had his fill, Pepsi would then take his turn at the bowls.
They were good cats. I had them for about 9 years. One day Moxie did not come home. Pepsi seemed to be extremely upset. He would not eat much and spent an inordinant amount of time gone from the house and yard. Two days later, Pepsi did not come home.

Here’s Simon’s cat with a new kitty. This explains exactly how to create harmony, peace, rapture and tranquility. It shows rather than tells.
