I’m guessing pyrite and im not sure what the dark (almost black) with dark red accents host rock. Any help would be so great.

My SWAG is that it is pyrite in a black shale. Red could be another Iron mineral.
Where did it come from? that would be a start.
Im not sure Ive had it for sometime and just became curious as to its origin… I doesnt seem like a slate as its heavy and doesnt have the slightest fracture points, and seems to be overall crystalline in origin. Im not geo-know-anything. All I do know regarding its origin is its from the western states. (lol) Blow up the image to original size. The lighting almost makes it appear striated like a slate, I may need a better picture.
Should i do like a streak test? If so then what material? What are the host rocks typically associated with pyrite? Its definitely a unique specimen. :)
it is a lackadaisical crustacean…. sorry, I couldn’t help myself. lol
