I bit the inside of my cheek a few days ago. How can I make it better faster?

Asked by Pandora (32398points) October 6th, 2012

A few days ago I bit the inside of my cheek unusually hard. It was bumpy and I punctured it. I’ve been trying to keep it clean and have done mouth rinses with warm salt water. I also use my old cure of listerine but that isn’t making it heal any faster like it usually does. It isn’t getting worse but I don’t think it is getting better.
I’ve never had a bite take this long to recover but then I don’t think I ever bit myself this hard.
I would appreciate any home remedies to help heal it quicker.

Usually mouth wounds heal pretty quickly. Maybe take some extra Vit. C and/ E. Keep up with the saline rinses and drink lots of water. It should be better in a few more days, tops. Ow….I HATE when that happens!

Anbesol will have it feeling better immediately!

@Coloma, I already take vitamin C but I’ll add E just as well. I wasn’t even biting on something hard at the time. It was a marshmellow cookie.
@Kayak8 Thanks! I also forgot about anbesol.

@Pandora I JUST bit my cheek last night too, but, it was a miss. I braced for the pain but it was only a grazing. lol I was eating tuna salad scooped with corn chips. haha

I don’t think Listerine is a good idea. I would use ST-37. It will keep it free of germs, but also be soothing to the pain.

Bromelain (the enzyme in pineapple) comes in tablet form and helps reduce swelling. I know when I get those I have a tendency to re bite them because it’s so swollen. You might want to put yourself on a soft diet for a few days as well.

I would try rinsing with warm salty water a few times day.
