How can I recover lost notes from an ipad?

Asked by enelson (13points) October 11th, 2012

About a week ago, my boss installed the IOS 6 update onto both of his ipads. As a result he lost around 3 years of notes. He has never backed anything up to the cloud as far as the notes go. From what I’ve seen so far, itunes doesn’t back up notes(not sure if this is actually true). I’m hoping those notes are just floating around somewhere out there and I can just retrieve them. Any thoughts?

For some reason my notes seem to get automatically saved in a folder in my gmail account. I don’t remember doing anything special to set this up unless it was by creating a Folder called “Notes.” Have your boss check there if he has gmail. I was surprised when I discovered that this happened.

I have not used it but for about $100 you could try www.Wondershare.com.

Works for iOS6 !

If he has an Outlook Exchange account hooked up to that, check out the Notes section of Outlook on his computer.

Assuming he wasn’t stupid enough to intentionally disable iCloud features have him check www.icloud.com and login with his apple account. Syncing notes is automatically enabled by default so there may be a chance that they could still be there.

If he’s using a note taking app that seriously, then he needs to actually use a higher quality full featured one like Evernote , which is free unless you want premium features.

If the ipad has been connected to itunes on a computer and if the ipad was set to backup to itunes and not icloud you may be able to get everything back by resetting the ipads and activating them by connecting them to itunes. You should then get the oportunity to reload the ipad to the state it was in the last time it was connected to itunes.

I would say a safe bet would be that if you have not backed up your information in three years then install a new system then the only information would be erased for good. But im no IT guy but, same as @janbb I was delightfully suprised to find that my notes had been backed up to my Ymail account somehow…I dont really know. This is one of the Hardest lessons to learn when gaining new technology….always back up your files.

If you have already backed up your iPad with iTunes or icloud, you can get the notes back by the using iTunes or icloud, If haven’t had time to back up your iPad before the deletion, you need recover the data directly using a third party data recovery software.
