What are some good light up toys for a 6 month old?

Asked by _Whitetigress (4378points) October 14th, 2012

Haven’t been able to find some good toys that light up and are teething friendly. Care to help? Thanks!

Why do you want toys that light up? I wonder sometimes whether kids today are being overstimulated with the day-glo toys that flash, squawk, talk, and overdo things. Do 6 month-olds really need toys that require batteries?

Here’s a question from yesterday about a 6 month old and teeth toys.

Everyone seems to like this teething product.

My grandchildren, ages 3 and 5 recently received a Dreamlight and we love it. No more bed time complaining. I recommend it for the six month old as well.

Seems like anything with a battery in it, at least one that is replaceable, would be a potential hazard. Enough gnawing on such a toy would probably pop open the battery hatch.

A few years ago BabyGap had small fabric dogs that had a mechanism inside that would bark when it sensed motion. The battery was not replaceable and they were sewn up pretty tight. But once the battery pooped out it was disappointment time.

@dabbler All the battery compartments I’ve seen recently require a screw driver to open. On soft toys, they are usually enclosed in a velcro pouch as well.
