Sports Fans: Has there ever been a quarterback who has experienced two bad years in their prime but rose above the adversity later on to become a champion?

I’m thinking perhaps Eli Manning fits this description? He’s coughed up a number of interceptions in his career yet has become a championship quater back. I feel like Philip Rivers is a top 10 QB, one of those where you think of the team and his name is the first player to pop up. I feel he’s in his prime still but had a rough last year and this year he’s tossing interceptions all over the place.

Help me think up other quarter backs who might fit the op!

Sure. John Elway had some awful years with the Broncos before going on to win two Super Bowls.

I was going to say Rob “Sack Magnet” Johnson as a joke, but I looked him up and he has a Super Bowl ring, with Tampa Bay in 2002. Jim Plunkett, Warren Moon and the other Tampa Bay quarterback, I can’t think of his name, also come to mind.

@Adirondackwannabe Man that Tampa Bay defense was second to none that season! @marinelife Ahh I was too young. I do remember him winning the superbowls though, but he seemed like a legend already.

You know, his early years with Denver were not as bad as I remembered. They went 13–3 in 1984 and 11–5 in 1985. In 1987, Elway led them in “The Drive,” a famous scoring drive in the AFC Championship game.
