And hit a windfall if a movie turns out to be a blockbuster like the Avengers?

Everyone knew The Avengers was going to score big. It would have been impossible to get some of that action.
You would be better off paying for some film student to make that little horror film. The pay off can be incredible, and you won’t have to deal with the Hollywood system, which has bookkeepers who are experts in hiding costs, and boosting expenses.
I apologize in advance for this unresearched answer but I could recall a plan two years ago regarding an investment fund specializing in films? Or was it a market exchange betting on how much a movie would make? Something like that. I could be way off but I remember thinking, well, that would be exciting. Predicting a movie’s outcome and betting on it.
While its not for real money, there is always HSX . Its essentially like the stock market for movies and their values are determined by how much hype there is for said movie and then how well it does in theathers.
I used to have an account a couple years ago. It was pretty fun to play with.
@mazingerz88 That was a movie futures exchange which almost got approved, but in the end it was not a sufficiently economic instrument; if you were long at expiration you didn’t take deliver of a movie.
Kickstarter has funded some movies; check that out. But be aware that the “overhead” of Hollywood financing is a notorious sinkhole. When actors take a percentage there is almost always a lawsuit over the accounting before the actor get s paid.
