What formerly great actors (actresses) have degenerated to so-so or just plain bad?

Asked by SuperMouse (30853points) October 20th, 2012

In my opinion not many performances compare to Al Pacino as Michael Corleone in the first and second Godfather movies. As time moves forward, Pacino’s skills seem to be moving backward. Slowly but surely his performances have degenerated to the point where he is parodying himself and chewing the scenery in movies such as Jack and Jill. Can you think of any other once powerful performers who have suffered the same fate?

The guy who talks to chairs. I can’t seem to remember his name.

Robert de Niro – he’s all grimace and shtick now.

Lauren Bacall, Betty Davis, and Joan Crawford, all went through that.

Okay, I’ll try people you guys remember.

Rutger Hauer was great when he was young. He rarely gets that intensity now. Blade Runner was so cool, but the last time I liked him was Sin City. And yes, I saw Hobo with a Shotgun.

Not exactly the same thing, but Seth Rogan just doesn’t cut it anymore. He is like audio captioning for the blind. He just says what just happened. “Wow, you just pushed a button and this car suddenly appears!”

As the unasked corollary, just look at Dame Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey as she steals every scene in which she appears, at age 77.

Meg Ryan. She looks like poop after all of her cosmetic “enhancements.” She is not aging well at all and her botox lip fiasco of a few years ago was hideous.
She was the most adorable little thing once upon a time.
