Where can I find information online about broncholithiasis?

Not sure if anyone can help me with this because all I’ve found is that it is a rare disorder. The American Lung Association doesn’t even have any online information for me. I guess I’m hoping that one of you knows someone who has had this problem. What I’m mostly looking for is what type of treatment is involved.
I have a Ct scan scheduled in February 2013 as a follow up for a diagnosis of histoplasmosis that was made a few months ago. Broncholithiasis was mentioned on my diagnostic order for the CT scan. My oncologist didn’t mention any of this to me, but I do have a follow up appointment with my family doctor in a few weeks so she’ll be able to explain this to me then. Just hoping for some answers now.

There are some basics available from the NIH, but I think their web sites must be down, because I can’t get any of those pages to load.
This might get you started. I wish I actually knew something abut this, but I don’t. I know very little about lung problems.
Here is the medical definition. When you search, it sometimes help to search the word plus add “medical definition” to the search. The medical dictionary is different from websters and other English Dictionaries.
This site has published articles about conditions for research that has been done. It is aimed for people who are in the medical field. I tried to search your diagnosis, but my computer was sort of stuck. I have been having trouble with pages opening in general, but you might have luck with it. Since you have not found anything on the easy to read lay person lung sites, I thought this might help.
I hope nothing too serious :(. A few weeks seems like a long time to wait to get some answers. It doesn’t look to me like bronchiliathisis has to be a very bad thing, but I really am quite clueless about it. I had never heard of it before. And, since you say oncologist I am curious if you already have a diagnosis of cancer? I had thought you had cancer ruled out?
@JLeslie My biopsy result was benign but the oncologist is doing all the follow up with me. I just had a follow up x-ray two weeks ago and I had an appointment with the nurse at the cancer center to find out the result of the x-ray. It showed that the histoplasmosis was stable but there was some concern with the second area (lymph node) on the x-ray. The oncologist wasn’t in the office so the nurse was going to ask him if he wanted another x-ray in three months or do a CT scan. They sent the appointment card for a CT scan in the mail. I’m assuming if it was urgent I would have had the CT scheduled much sooner. I’m just a little curious.
I’m getting the same search results and finding nothing in lay person terms.
I meant the follow up with your family doctor so you can ask questions.
broncho = related to the bronchi
lith = rock
It’s like a hard granuloma in the bronchial tree that can cause bleeding, caused by TB or histoplasmosis.
I found this article where it is also referred to as “pulmonary pearls”.
A websearch for “broncholith” seems to get more hits than searching for “broncholitiasis”.
I hope you your answers and effective treatment soon!
@Rarebear When it is caused by one of those diseases is it considered not contagious and hardened over by the bodies immune system? Kind of the disease is done, when the body has successfully faught it so to speak?
No idea. I never heard of it before this post.
Thanks everyone. I’ve spent hours searching and wasted so much time. I’ll make sure to post an update after I speak with my doctor.
