What is love? How do you know when you’re really and seriously in love?

Baby don’t hurt me… don’t hurt me… no more!

When your death is preferable to theirs.

Please, no sill answers. Serious.

@Seek – you beat me to it!

As someone wise once said on here, quite recently, if you don’t know, then it’s not love yet.

Edit – I don’t think @Poisonantedote’s answer is silly. When the other person’s well-being is more important to you than your own, it’s a good indicator.

Biochemically it’s the same as eating large quantities of dark chocolate. Therefore when I feel like I’ve eaten too much dark chocolate I know I’m in love.

@kimchi: Switch this question from “Social” to “General” in order to avoid sillines.

The smell, you’ll be able to tell by the smell. When you find the way your partner smells utterly intoxicating you are with The One. (Not a silly answer, I am 100% serious.)

Is there a smell for people you just want to have wild sex with and then pretend nothing ever happened? Because I swear I know one of those. Dear gods, he smells good.

SuperMouse's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr I have had the experience! But there is a huge difference between the “man I wanna get with you now” kind of smell and the “Man I Want to Spend the Rest of My Life Getting With You” kind of smell.

When I was a teenager, I asked someone who was like a second mother to me how I could tell if I was in love. She said that if you’re in love, you will want to spend the rest of your life with that person.

I miss the young days when I could fall in love with ease..
nowadays I just can’t sense that chemistry rising in my body.

Yep, check out my other question on “This guy is stuck in my head?” and you’ll see how easily I fall in love, too.

@kimchi; I am not sure what love is, but I know what it isn’t…seeing a guy across a crowded ice skating rink while you are doing spins and trying to look good.

Love is a condition that physiologically bares a striking similarity to disease, being a series of biochemical responses that trigger an emotional cascade, impairing normal functioning.

It’s a feeling that can’t really be translated into words.
I found out what love was when my first child was born in 97.
That made me realise I wasn’t in-love with her mother, and also what led me to know I was in-love with my wife.

You never think your in-love, if you have to think about it, it’s not love, but once in it, you just know, even if you’ve never experienced it before.

COSMIC!

Love is an either lasting or brief, horrible or fantastic, returned or unreturned, noticed or unnoticed, possibly life-altering infatuation with a person’s attributes, behaviour, character, look, etc. To accurately describe said love, telepathy seems to be needed, as there are varying ways in which it presents itself. Possibly, no two people love alike.
No responsibility is accepted for the accuracy of this information.

I think the “Man I Want to Spend the Rest of My Life Getting With You” smell is located on said man’s neck.

I think love is everywhere. You do not touch love but you can feel love. Love is totally blind but some people do not believe in love. They are divot of love but some people are devotee of love.
